For years, Avenue’s glamorously clinical, white-walled dining room was a regular haunt of Mayfair’s blue-bloods, antique dealers and shoppers looking for eclectic, Brit-accented food and smart
drinks. Now it’s re-emerged as an all-American joint – although it still exudes an arty vibe, with exhibits and sculptural installations from new kids on the block. A unique chandelier fashioned
from wine glasses takes centre stage in the dining room, while the menu offers contemporary US dishes ranging from clam chowder served in sourdough with littleneck clams and crumbled bay crackers
to sharing plates from the Josper grill – perhaps ‘KC suckling pig butt’ with spiced bacon, pecan cabbage, cinder potato and sour cream. The 200-bin wine list focuses on American and Old World
classics, with a Coravin system allowing diners to sample prestige wines by the glass or ‘pail’.
