SquareMeal Review of 5cc Farringdon

The latest branch of 5cc occupies the basement of former Victorian printworks turned taproom nouveau, Harrild & Sons – so park up in the handsome coppery bar for fine malt whiskies (Port Ellen 1982 at £150 a pop from a selection of ‘whisky porn’), global blends and various persuasive whisky-based fixes. Scots-themed cocktails such as Bobby Burns, rusty screw, capercaillie and a spiced-chai old fashioned are ‘braw beasts’, while Dixie cousins include broken limb (rye whiskey, Lillet blanc, Amer Picon, and white cacao liqueur) – although the staff are also up for gin-based joys, classics and ideas such as Rimbaud’s left hand (Aperol, Benedictine, abisnthe and pineapple).Otherwise, hole up in the bar’s narrow vaults and order food from Harrild and Son's menu to go with a sophisticated soundtrack of 50s rock, hillbilly, reggae and calypso. One of the neighbourhood’s best… by far.
