Spagnoletti Pasta Lab is a quirky Italian restaurant and venue in Central London with a concept based around its 'whimsically retro-futuristic environment' and lab-like facilities. The menu is focused predominantly on flour and from the open kitchen, chefs create all manner of dishes using this one magic ingredient.
Invention is at the restaurant's core and much of the inspiration for its decor comes from Charles Spagnoletti, the 19th century engineer and inventor who helped create the telegraphic signalling systems first used on the Metropolitan line and later for many of London's railways. Spagnoletti nods the the inventor's work with surprises hidden around every corner and a wacky design that makes fro a great backdrop for an event.
The team are well equipped to deal with private dining events and have three main spaces which may be of interest. For an entirely exclusive experience, The Marine room is a richly-hued, intimate space with an impressive central table crafted from the same wood of Nelson’s HMS Victory Ship. Here, 12 people can enjoy an atmospheric dinner, whether it be for a big birthday or important client meeting.
The semi-private dining area caters for 30 people and sits just off the main restaurant, overlooking Kings Cross, with a mesh curtain dividing the space. This is a great spot for benefitting from the hubbub of other guests, or you can take over the mezzanine for yourself, and host 50 of your favourite people.
In terms of the menu, expect typically Italian fare beginning with starters and small plates such as creamy burrata sourced from a London-based farm complemented by wild puffed rice, balsamic gel and beetroot sorbet. For mains, pasta is an obvious choice as all varieties are made fresh in-house. We like the sound of the tagliatelle with green asparagus pesto and egg yolk dressing. Otherwise, the BBQ section is well worth your attention with dishes such as grilled octopus, homemade stuffed pork belly with pickles and yellowtail tuna.
