If you’re dreading turkey and all the trimmings at your work Christmas party because you know you’re going to eat it at least twice more before the season is over, you need to book Burger & Lobster pronto. Not only is its Threadneedle branch a beautiful space in which to drink and dine, but it does away with tradition in favour of a festive lobster feast which is every bit as good as it sounds.
Housed in a Grade II-listed former bank on Threadneedle Street that was designed to resemble Peruzzi's Massimi Palace in Rome, Burger & Lobster Threadneedle is perfect for celebrations. With its distinctive chequerboard floor, lofty ceilings with ornately carved trimmings and large metal doors, it’s a grand space with plenty of room for smaller private gatherings or one blow-out bash.
For festive lunches and dinners, all you need to do is gather your mates or colleagues and book into one of Burger & Lobster Threadneedle’s three private rooms: the Round Room, the Mezzanine or the Wine Cage. The Round Room is tucked away at the back of the ground floor restaurant and is ideal for intimate gatherings of 10 people. If you’re looking for something a little more sophisticated, try the Wine Cage where you can eat and drink surrounded by wood-panelled walls and bottles of exquisite wines and Champagnes. For big groups you’ll want to hire the Mezzanine, which overlooks the main restaurant. With its own private bar, edgy neon signs and private bathrooms, it’s the ideal space for letting your hair down after a long year.
The Lobster Feast menu is £60 per person and includes a glass of fizz on arrival followed by sharing starters, and a lobster bisque before the main event: a whole Nova Scotian lobster. Served steamed or grilled, it’ll be presented with lobster butter gravy and accompanied by various trimmings including classic Brussels sprouts. Then, for anyone who’s still got room, there’s a choice of desserts. Various drinks packages are available – just speak to staff when you book.
