SquareMeal Review of The Tinners Arms

Don’t worry if you leave your mobile phone in the car when you arrive at The Tinner’s Arms as there is no signal in this unspoilt 13th-century inn. Built to accommodate the stonemasons working on the historic church next door, there is a time-stood-still quality to the place thanks to landlords Grahame Edwards and Richard Motley.

No TVs, music or fruit machines disturb the peace as punters sit back with pints of local ale or cider and escape the stresses of modern life. The food is simple, honest and home-cooked – local venison haunch steak with spring greens, mashed potato and beetroot sauce or pan-fried sea bass fillet with salad and chips are typical evening main courses, while lunches could be as simple as a home-cooked ham ploughman’s or a Newlyn crab sandwich.

About

The Tinners Arms is a charming country pub found in the tiny village of Zennor in Cornwall, just a short drive from St. Ives. Bursting with character, the pub dates back to the 13th century when it was built as accommodation for the masons who built the local church. Little has changed about The Tinners Arms to this day in terms of its rustic charm but it now serves a tempting food menu, which takes advantage of the area's wonderful local produce, accompanied by a huge selection of drinks. Whether you’re looking for a quick pint by a roaring fire or a hearty pub supper, the Tinners Arms is the ultimate cosy retreat.

The small pub’s age is apparent from its weathered stone exterior, which gives the place a welcoming feel. Inside, it’s a cosy affair, with wooden panels decorating the walls and a combination of chairs and benches sat around the tables, while a fireplace sits at the far end of the room.  Out the back of the Tinners arms is a gorgeous, grassy beer garden, which is the perfect spot for lunch during the summer.

Serving a food menu which showcases ingredients from the local fishing ports and farms, The Tinners Arms is open both for lunch and dinner. Sandwiches on offer include fresh white crab landed in Newlyn Bay with lemon mayo, while snacks range from crispy fried squid to loaded nachos. You can expect main courses such as a rustic chicken stew and moules mariniere, while desserts include fruit crumble and sticky toffee pudding. A short kids menu features favourites like sausage and chips.

An impressive variety of cask ales, beers and ciders from both local breweries and well-known names is the focus of the drinks offering at the Tinners Arms, while a number of spirits, wines and soft drinks are also available.
