About The Cove Restaurant & Bar
Boasting a beachside setting and stunning views across Maenporth Beach and Falmouth Bay, award-winning restaurant and bar, The Cove, has remained a popular spot for locals and visitors for almost 20 years, and shows no signs of slowing down. That’s because from March 2020, the critically acclaimed, Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines will be taking over from current chef patron, Arty Williams.
Caines rose to prominence during his 20-year stint at Gidleigh Park in Devon, where he gained and retained two Michelin stars. More recently, he has been cooking up a storm (in the most refined way possible) at Lympstone Manor over the border in Devon, where he has been chef patron since 2016. In terms of Caines’ plans for The Cove, little is known except that the revamped restaurant will offer a more informal approach to dining than either of his previous posts.
Historically, The Cove has retained its reputation as a dining destination by presenting an innovative menu of fine seasonal creations with a focus on fresh seafood. Chef Arty Williams honed his skills in some of the world’s most renowned seafood restaurants which, when coupled with a keen eye for superb artisanal produce, made for a menu bursting with dishes such as Cornish haddock with a rich Thermidor sauce, or plaice served with chorizo, sour apple, saffron and harissa.
Caines’ menus have yet to be released, but judging by his reputation, they’re almost certain to be full of well thought-out dishes made from local Cornish produce. Little more is known, except that the restaurant will serve hot drinks in the morning followed by lunch, afternoon snacks and dinner. Given the relaxed and informal approach to dining that Caines is planning to take at this latest venture, it’s likely that the food and drink offering will provide plenty to please locals, holidaymakers and families.
