Neoclassical Somerset House on the south side of the Strand is one of London’s most spectacular buildings. Once a royal residence and now a hub for contemporary arts and culture, Somerset House is a uniquely fascinating venue that lends itself beautifully to weddings of all styles and sizes.
The first and most well-known space you’ll encounter is the Edmond J Safra Fountain Court, surrounded on all sides by magnificent 19th-century buildings. The courtyard is a popular spot for events throughout the year, but book well enough in advance and you could enjoy a standing reception for up to 1,500 guests or a seated wedding breakfast for up to 550 (450 with dancing).
If this indoor/outdoor space is a little too large for your wedding party, the River Terrace is an excellent alternative. Offering views of the venue’s grand façade on one side and the bright lights of the South Bank across the Thames on the other, the River Terrace boasts an unbeatable location and is fully adaptable to your wedding party needs.
And then there are a whole host of indoor spaces that can be hired individually or together, such as the Navy Board Rooms, which is an excellent spot for drinks and canapes and thethe Portico Rooms, which can be dressed up for your wedding breakfast. Seamen’s Hall is probably our favourite space at Somerset House, though. Its Corinthian columns, arched windows and marble floors, plus its panoramic views of the Thames and surrounding iconic landmarks make it a striking space for a wedding breakfast – just ask your photographer!
Whatever your vision, the grandeur of Somerset House’s buildings, its matchless central London location, and the expertise of the dedicated Events Team – who will help you through the whole process, from your first enquiry to being with you on your big day – promise to make your wedding at Somerset House a truly unforgettable experience.
