Rochester is a town in Kent that sits at the lowest bridging point of the River Medway. This quaint yet busy part of Kent is located just half an hour outside of London and is a popular choice with commuters who want to be able to access the capital easily but with the joys of a quiet life. Right in the heart of the town lies Rochester Cathedral and Castle, which are great parts of the town’s history, culture, and hold significant importance. Rochester Castle was a Norman construction, whilst Rochester Cathedral was founded earlier, in 604, making it the second oldest in the whole of the country. You’ll have plenty of outdoor pursuits at your door in Rochester, which can be enjoyed on the Rochester Green Spaces Trail, guiding you through the town south towards and through Borstal. Plus, Rochester was the birthplace of Charles Dickens and has much more to explore - such as the Corn Exchange, Guildhall and Restoration House.
