The Southbank Centre has some whopping venue news
Queen Elizabeth Hall and the Purcell Room have just emerged from a refurb, following a two-and-a-half year project to update, well, just about everything.

The ‘iconic black leather seats’ have been reupholstered, while the walls, floors and ceilings have been given the attention they need to look as slick as when the venue opened in 1967.

But the main focus has been on reconfiguring both auditoriums to allow for the very best AV equipment to be installed. The by-product is improved acoustics in both rooms, which should ensure that events such as key-note speeches and techy product launches really sing.

Outside the auditoria, the foyer will benefit from new glazing, meaning pre and post-event drinks receptions will be significantly lighter and brighter affairs, with better views of the Thames.

Backstage, we have it on good advice that the Artists’ Bar and Green Room, both available for hire as part of a venue takeover, have also been given a full refurb. All in all, a rather fetching proposition for organisers keen on booking somewhere exciting this summer.
