Thai Square Wig and Pen is temporarily closed and will re-open in autumn 2019
Housed in what is said to be the only building that survived the Great Fire of London, this Thai restaurant serves authentic cuisine in a cosy space that still has all its charming features from the 1600s.
Serving up a feast of curries, stir fries and soups, you won’t ever run out of things to choose from. From fresh and flavourful to warm and hearty, there is something to fit every mood or craving. To kick off your Thai meal, choose from a selection of starters such as Thai dumplings, prawn toast and fish cakes. If you haven’t filled up on starters, try the plar goong – prawns with chilli’s lime and the chef’s special sauce. Or order the western favourite Thai green curry and pick from a selection of rice or noodles.
Although Thai food has connotation of including lots of meat and fish, veggies need not worry – the vegetarian menu is just as varied and equally as tempting as the main menu. Try the corn cakes, vegetable tempura or spring rolls. For mains, sweet and sour beans, tofu with cashew nuts and jungle vegetable curry will fill you up nicely.
Thailand isn’t exactly famous for their desserts, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good. The kao-neow mamuang – fresh mango with sweet and sticky rice with sesame seeds – sounds different, but certainly has us intrigued. The pandan pancake with coconut filling will tickle your taste buds, or if you want to keep things simple, the selection of ice creams doesn’t disappoint.
Whatever you decide to order from this Thai Square, you can take comfort in knowing that you’ll be getting fresh and tasty food in a cosy, intimate setting. Great for if you are going on a date, with a big group of people or simply just want to experience a piece of Thailand here in London.
