About

With an aim to serve up some of the best plant-based food in the country, VE Kitchen delivers colourful, fresh plates via their restaurant in southwest London.

VE Kitchen is a no-excuse plant food kitchen diner. They serve delicious, freshly prepared 100% plant-based food all day, everyday and place sustainability at the heart of what they do; using produce sourced wherever possible from ‘low food miles’ outlets, cooking it in green energy kitchens and using zero-plastic packaging for their deliveries.

In the Northcote Road restaurant the interiors are painted in a pleasingly pastel palette and provide that all-important Instagram opportunity. Expect pink velvet stools, counter seating, mismatched sculptural lights and a feature wall, as well as a large outdoor terrace perfect for al fresco dining.

The menu is broken up into Guilty Pleasures, Game Changers and Modern Classics where delicious, fresh ingredients take centre stage. From the Guilty Pleasure section, you can expect a selection of loaded burgers. Think a spicy Korean one topped with kimchi, creamy slaw, tomato, pickles, and Korean BBQ sauce or the Classic – a combo of a Moving Mountain patty with lettuce, tomatoes, burger sauce and pickles.

The Game Changer bowls are centred around the Ayurveda principles of eating mindfully, so you can expect nourishing ingredients and focused food groupings. With both warm and hot bowls on offer, these are perfect for a hearty lunch or lighter supper. The Vata bowls – for instance - are thought to promote balance. Toppings for these include a rainbow selection of veggies with a pumpkin seed pesto as well as a miso tofu bowl with pickled cucumbers, kimchi and sesame.

Modern Classics span mac and cheese, katsu curry and Smokey bean chilli. Sweets haven’t been skipped either. Here you can choose from a tempting selection of gelato, brownies or hot cookies and ice cream.

If you happen to stop in during the morning there’s also a great line-up of brunch specials, with both sweet and savoury options that include a full fry, warm banana bread or sweet spiced porridge topped with peanut butter and maple syrup.

Take your money elsewhere - Avoid this place, OVERPRICED ready-meal standard food

AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS. I have been trying to contact these people for the past few weeks to get a refund for the overcharge on our bill - they accepted the (suspicious) error on their part in their first response and agreed to refund us, but we have not heard from them since. We have contacted them on numerous occasions since July with no response, my friend even spoke to Sebastian over the phone where he asked for her card details to process the refund, he said it would be done right away but this was a LIE and none has been received to this day. I was also promised that the owner would contact me to resolve this issue but this was ANOTHER LIE.

FOOD REVIEW: As I South London residing vegan, I was so excited to find this restaurant, however I was extremely disappointed as their food is of a VALUE READY MEAL STANDARD and OVERPRICED. I had the Mac & cheese and quite honestly, you are better off getting the vegan Mac & cheese ready meal from M&S as it of better quality and taste. The burgers are onwards of £15 - and they come WITHOUT chips, so you have to pay extra for those. The cheesecake was underwhelming, again, you are better off getting the vegan cheesecake from M&S - furthermore, they do not disclose the full list of ingredients on their menu. The cheesecake ended up having a cocoa/chocolate base whereas it didn’t say this on the menu - I had to ask the waiter to check the ingredients after I had started eating it as it tasted chocolaty to me, he later confirmed it contained chocolate milk. The only reason I mention this as an issue is because I am intolerant to cocoa. I could only eat the top part of the cheesecake, which was basic at best. As per another visitors reviews, they do not fully disclose their ingredients on their menu - as a vegan restaurant, they should, of all restaurants, know the importance of full disclose of ingredients, especially as many visitors may have intolerances. This is a basic standard of any restaurant. Also, the music levels are so loud that you have to practically shout to hear the person you are dining with - the music levels are of a bar and not a dining establishment. They have very little regard for their customers. Other reviews have also stated how overpriced their menu is, they continue to provide lip service and say they will take feedback on board - but it does not look like they have any intention of doing anything with feedback. At the time of visiting I was not impressed by the food, however the service was pleasant (although a bit chaotic), and I had hoped to revisit again to give it another try and so I did not to hastily give it a mediocre review. However evidently VE Kitchen want to cash in on servicing basic food and scamming their customers (other reviews set out their tactics of charging per person to sit outside, etc). A lot of personal time and energy has been wasted on VE Kitchen and trying to get our money back - PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY AT THIS RESTAURANT AND GO ELSEWHERE! DO NOT RECOMMEND
