Set just around the corner from Hornsey Station, Tomo Italian Kitchen is a family-run Italian restaurant that has been serving its local community since 2008. Much loved by its community, the restaurant focuses on authentic Italian cooking with subtle Sardinian influences. Food is comforting but with a refined edge, making it a favourite for birthday celebrations, casual date nights, and mid-week dinners, as well as quick weekend lunches with the whole family.
Inside, the dining room emerges as a traditional Italian trattoria, featuring dark wood tables and chairs, charming orange painted walls and comfortable green banquette seating. An open kitchen adds a sense of theatre, allowing diners to watch chefs preparing dishes from scratch while the room fills with the scent of fresh pizza and simmering sauces.
The Tomo Italian Kitchen menu begins with classic antipasti. Think pane della casa served with olive oil and balsamic, nocellara olives, and garlic pizza bread topped with mozzarella and oregano. You’ll also find starters that include dishes like calamari fritti with courgettes and garlic mayonnaise, burrata wrapped in prosciutto with rocket, aubergine parmigiana, and sautéed king prawns in a chilli and white wine bisque sauce.
Pasta dishes, meanwhile, include fresh tagliolini with black winter truffle and parmesan, while heartier mains range from duck breast with raspberry sauce and saffron mashed potato to seafood and meat specials. Tomo Italian Kitchen is also well known for its pizza selection, which features sourdough bases fermented for 72 hours, along with toppings such as the classic Margherita, pepperoni and chilli Angelica, as well as the Zofia, which comes laden with prosciutto crudo, rocket and grana padano.
Families are also catered for with a dedicated children’s menu designed to offer simpler Italian favourites in smaller portions. As for drinks, all tastes are covered with a selection of Italian wines, beer and cocktails, alongside non-alcoholic options.
