Though there’s plenty of choice for drinkers in Battersea Village, sometimes only a pubby pub such as The Woodman will do. Enter through the modest frontage to find a cavernous drinking hall stretching out, with a pretty beer garden at the back. If you’re a sports fan, park yourself in front of the large screen for the big footie or rugby game. Food (fish & chips, burgers & the like) is available, as is a basic wine list, but there are better establishments for these in the neighbourhood. Stick instead to the excellent ales. A couple of pints of Tanglefoot or Badger Best, from Dorset’s Hall & Woodhouse brewery, will have even the most hardened Camra man sighing with delight. Every Monday at 8.30pm there’s a well-established quiz night.
