Located within the five-star Grand Hotel in York, The Rise is a modern British restaurant offering elegant all-day dining in a warm and refined setting. This award-winning restaurant is ideal for breakfast, brunch, dinner, or a relaxed afternoon tea, blending luxury and comfort with a traditional Yorkshire welcome.

Guests can enjoy breakfast daily, with two options available: a generous continental buffet featuring cold dishes such as yoghurts, fruit, cereals, and pastries, alongside hot favourites like bacon, eggs, mushrooms, and vegan options; or a curated à la carte menu with dishes like eggs Benedict, shakshuka, waffles, and porridge.

In terms of what to expect for dinner bookings at The Rise, think seasonal à la carte menus that include starters such as roasted carrot, Bramley apple and lemongrass soup; burrata with fine vegetable ratatouille; and The Grand Scotch egg with celeriac remoulade. Mains feature spiced cauliflower steak, baked Atlantic cod, and braised beef cheek. A set menu is also available Sunday to Thursday, offering three courses at an incredibly reasonable price point, with options like chive and potato waffles, wild mushroom risotto, and blackberry meringue.

The spacious restaurant features wood panelling, leather booths, and a dramatic open kitchen that brings a sense of theatre to every meal. The Rise at The Grand also offers an afternoon tea experience complete with dedicated menus for desserts, drinks, and junior diners. Expect dinky sweet treats and plenty of savoury options too, including miniature quiches, sandwiches, and sausage rolls, all made with local produce.

Bringing over twenty years of experience to The Grand, Kevin leads the culinary team as executive head chef, working across the hotel’s restaurants. Formerly culinary director at the Michelin-starred De Mondion in Malta, Kevin works alongside the team ensuring creative and seasonal dishes that reflect The Grand’s commitment to culinary excellence.
