The Peacock Inn has a long history in Chelsworth, as a stunning 14th century half-timber Grade II listed building. Experts even think that The Peacock Inn is one of the oldest buildings in the village, so it's no surprise that it's remained a favourite haunt amongst the people of Chelsworth.
The Peacock Inn menu is not exactly what you’d expect from a traditional pub, and that’s because it’s not. It’s a warm and friendly pub, serving up elevated modern British fare. Forget pork scratchings from a bag and a bowl of peanuts, the bar snacks at The Peacock Inn include a delicious warm Scotch egg with sauerkraut, wild mushroom croquette with parmesan and truffle, and homemade sourdough bread smothered with miso butter.
For your starter, try the saffron cured red mullet with spiced fish soup, white asparagus and homemade sriracha, or the devilled Gressingham duck liver sausage with sauerkraut, roasted koji duck broth and bergamot oil. We’d head straight for the Suffolk lamb hotpot with wild garlic salsa verde, creamed cavolo nero and minted lamb sauce as our main, or perhaps the glazed maitake mushroom and aged carnaroli rice with garden peas, tarragon, three corner leeks and lemon.
There's even a tasting menu at this very special pub, which includes many delicious dishes. Snacks of sout and caraway rye bread with pork fat and pickles begin the meal, followed by an asparagus and Jersey royal salad with lemon emulsion with wild rocket, parmesan and soft egg. The fish course is the saffron cured red mullet, and for your main, it's roasted guinea fowl with Wye Valley asparagus, purple broccoli, ratte potato puree, truffle and reblochon.
Pre-dessert, an Earl Grey and lemon granite will cleanse your palette, before a saffron custard flan with hibiscus, poached rhubarb, cardamom ice cream and pistachio. Last but not least, you'll be brought a selection of homemade petit fours, and your option of an additional cheese course.
