Nestled in the heart of Coggeshall, Essex, The Noble Goose carries forward a remarkable culinary legacy spanning nearly four decades. Originally opened in 1986 by Peter Langan (the flamboyant restaurateur behind London’s iconic Langan’s Brasserie), the venue still carries the spirit of its legendary namesake today. With art-lined walls, a touch of glamour, and a commitment to exceptional food, The Noble Goose continues to honour its roots while championing a modern, locally sourced approach.
Now under the management of Blackwells, The Noble Goose continues to evolve while remaining true to its roots. Led by award-winning Head Chef James Self, the kitchen delivers refined British brasserie dining with a sophisticated French twist, with a passion for championing local producers and seasonal ingredients, allowing quality and provenance to take centre stage on every plate.
The à la carte menu draws from both classic British and French influences, with starters like partridge bubble and squeak, or hand-dived scallops with cauliflower puree and crispy pancetta. Mains are rich, comforting and full of flair, think roast venison loin with potato fondant, or braised beef short rib with mash potato. For a show-stopping centrepiece, the the wing rib for two, with triple cooked chips garlic mushrooms and your choice of sauce, is ideal for sharing.
The approach is simple yet considered: elegant food served in a relaxed, welcoming setting. Whether you’re coming for the à la carte evening menus, a leisurely lunch, or our much-loved Sunday roasts, each dish reflects a commitment to flavour, craftsmanship, and tradition.
Private dining spaces are available for hire, making it a strong choice for birthdays, weddings, memorials, and corporate dinners alike. And if you're travelling from afar, or simply want to make a night of it, the adjoining period hotel offers six stylish bedrooms. Each one is individually designed and stocked with thoughtful touches like ‘Au Lait’ toiletries, breakfast hampers and coffee machines.
