SquareMeal Review of The Parlour at Fortnum & Mason

Situated on the first floor of Fortnum & Mason’s venerable foodie emporium, The Parlour offers an ice-cream spree and more besides for adults and children of all ages. Many of the flavours are unique to F&M and the store has recently increased its range dramatically: enjoy them straight, order a float, build your own sundae or ring the changes with frozen yoghurt and sorbets. Authentic Viennese cakes and strudels are also a hit, particularly with superior espresso-based coffees, premium teas and the ‘ultimate hot chocolate’. If a savoury spread is required, the menu obliges with ‘savoury treats and salads’ ranging from Dorset crab sandwiches and Welsh rarebit to dill gravadlax with celeriac and caper rémoulade, duck rillettes or fish pie – perfect with a flute of fizz or a glass of wine.

About

Tucked away inside the iconic Fortnum & Mason at 181 Piccadilly, The Parlour is a haven of indulgence for sweet-toothed visitors of all ages. This award-winning ice cream parlour brings a touch of playfulness to the grandeur of one of London’s most famous luxury stores, offering a menu packed with classic treats, inventive desserts, and comforting savoury bites.

Fortnum & Mason’s ice cream credentials are nothing short of legendary - this is, after all, the establishment that first introduced Britain to the Knickerbocker Glory. Today, The Parlour continues to honour this legacy with a selection of decadent sundaes, handcrafted shakes, and artisan scoops, all made using the finest ingredients. Guests can take matters into their own hands with the ‘build your own sundae’ option, choosing from an enticing range of flavours, including banana split, marmalade, and cherry sherbet, before piling on sauces like hazelnut and passionfruit and finishing with fun toppings such as caramelised popcorn and candy floss.

But it’s not all about the sweet treats - The Parlour has plenty to offer for those in search of something savoury, too. Whether it’s a comforting Welsh rarebit, a hearty Scotch egg, or a pepperoni, mozzarella and sun-dried tomato tart, there’s a delicious dish to balance out the sugar rush. Meanwhile, morning visitors can start their day with a plum and berry smoothie, a classic bacon sandwich, or a raspberry yoghurt.

For those craving the ultimate chocolate experience, the Hot Chocolate Bar is a must-visit. Guests can pick from velvety milk, rich dark, or indulgent salted caramel hot chocolates, each topped with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for a truly luxurious finish.

With its light-hearted atmosphere and menu that blends nostalgic favourites with Fortnum’s signature quality, The Parlour is an irresistible stop for both Londoners and visitors alike. Whether you're after an expertly crafted coffee, an old-fashioned float, or an ice cream creation that would make even the most seasoned dessert aficionado swoon, this charming corner of Fortnum & Mason promises a delightful and delicious experience.
