SquareMeal Review of The King's Head Earl's Court

At the heart of a sleepy, villagey enclave off traffic-jammed Earl’s Court Road stands The King’s Head – once a reprobate to avoid, but now looking good following a Shaker-style makeover that has also heralded a line-up of well-kept real ales and some decent pub grub. Order beers from the likes of Young’s, Adnams and Westerham (a Kentish craft brewer) or dip into the wine list for, say, a biodynamic Chilean Riesling or an organic Rioja. The menu also covers a lot of ground from full English breakfasts for late risers to moules marinière, grilled garlic pawns with chorizo and crispy Parma ham, roast lamb shank in redcurrant gravy, cod and chips or Dutch classic kroketten met brood (spicy beef croquettes served with bread and Dijon mustard). After that, plump for waffles, brownies or Eton mess.

Fullers Joins the Farm to Fork movement and it works
I was invited by the lovely Clare to the soft launch on Saturday night. I was seated next to other guests and asked how the food was, excellent. Fullers has just spend £1m renovating this local hive. Now, turned around, and looking smart, its a place to call in for a quiet drink. The wine list and prices are spot on with a good variety to choose from and pair with the new menu. The Chef Selso from Mexico came out at the end, and told me the story about Fullers vision of farm to table. I was pleasantly surprised that all the ingredients were locally sourced, the Chef knew where everything on the table had been grown, and told me how the new kitchen even has a steam bath. Fullers has upped their game. While they are still working on the kinks, I expect that the fare will continue to excel. The presentation is no pub , but akin to a good brasserie. I had the chicken terrine for a starter. Pungent aromas of herbs and fennel wafted from the plate when it arrived. I was not disappointed. Must go back for seconds. Come in and try, they have smartened up the bar, nice bar stools, and could not be a better spot for an after works evening. I will definitely be back.
