In fact, the space was designed to raise somewhat of an eyebrow, with bold, tropical-inspired wallpaper complemented by patterned seating and vintage-style lamps. Thanks to its low lighting and sumptuous textures, this place is brimming with atmosphere, making it a perfect spot for getting together with friends or even a hot date.
As for the cocktail menu, you can expect all the classics as well as in-house signatures. Grab a couple of nibbles as you prop up the bar, such as smoked spicy almonds, salted pork crunch and Gordal olives, before taking a look through the signature cocktails, such as The Night Owl with The Lakes One fine blended whisky, pomegranate molasses, strawberry and raspberry coulis and dark chocolate.
Personally, we're intrigued by the Xin Voltaire cocktail sorbets, like the Florian which mixes Champagne, vodka, elderflower and white peach, or the Alphonse with dark rum, coconut liquer, mango and passion fruit.
If you're hungry, The Owl and the Monkey also boasts a selection of mouth-watering small plates with options like a salmon fillet charcoal sliderwith tartar sauce, broad bean, pea and spinach arancini with red pepper hummus, or selection of aritsan English cheese and meats. As for dessert, try the chocolate brownie with clotted cream ice cream for something sweet.
