The pub's name references a track from Pink Floyd's 1983 album The Final Cut, a nod to the band's longstanding association with Battersea Power Station, immortalised by the cover of Animals. This link to the area's cultural history is woven throughout the concept, which aims to celebrate both London's pub culture and Battersea's continued transformation into one of the capital's most vibrant riverside neighbourhoods.
At its heart, The Hero's Return combines several roles: neighbourhood pub, relaxed dining room and communal gathering space. A spacious riverside setting includes a 40-cover terrace overlooking the Thames, while indoors guests will find warm timber finishes, low lighting, open-fireplace touches and an open kitchen. Traditional pub comforts are balanced with contemporary design details inspired by the industrial character of the surrounding development.
The kitchen is led by Jonathan Woolway, whose 17-year tenure at renowned British restaurant St. JOHN saw him work alongside Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver. His menu focuses on seasonal British produce and ingredient-led cooking, showcasing classic techniques through a modern lens. Dishes include grilled mackerel with rainbow chard and horseradish, ox heart with hand-cut chips and peppercorn sauce, and cold roast Gower lamb with celeriac remoulade and pickled walnut.
