The Azuki Room is a Japanese restaurant and sake bar located on Rolls Passage near Chancery Lane. Spread across two floors, the venue combines the precision of modern Japanese cooking with the informal character of a Tokyo izakaya. Azuki, meaning red bean in Japanese, is the latest venture by the owner of Dotori, bringing great value, and authentic food to the heart of central London.
The ground floor is arranged around a counter that faces an open kitchen, allowing guests to watch the chefs at work. Upstairs, the dining space opens out onto a terrace designed for daytime meals and late-night drinks. The interior design uses dark wood, brushed metal and soft lighting to create a clean, contemporary atmosphere, while references to traditional Japanese decor add warmth and texture.
The restaurant is led by chef and restaurateur Alan Tse, whose background in Tokyo influences both the menu and layout. The kitchen makes use of binchotan charcoal for grilling and presents a concise selection of dishes built around seafood, rice and seasonal produce. Start with a collection of skewers and small plates, including asparagus pork roll or beef tongue skewers, alongside chicken gyoza, mixed tempura and deep-fried aubergine with sweet miso paste.
Moving onto mains, be sure to grab something from the grill, with options for scallops, red sea bream, or jumbo tiger prawns. Elsewhere, you’ll find the likes of chicken katsu curry, tempura donburi, as well as a variety of ramens such as hokkaido miso butter ramen, and hakata-style tonkotsu ramen. When it comes to drinks, guests can expect a variety of beers, ciders and soft drinks, alongside a concise selection of umeshu, sake, and liqueurs for the full experience.
