Having wound up their long and successful tenure at the Weavers Shed in nearby Golcar, Stephen and Tracy Jackson decided to open a café in a posh Huddersfield suburb. Housed in an elegant historic building, T&Cake tips its hat to fin de siècle European coffee shops, so kick back in a purple-velvet wing chair with a bespoke tea or excellent espresso and choose something for lunch: eggs Benedict, croque monsieur and devilled lamb’s kidneys are crowd-pleasers, while sweet-toothed customers might consider a warm Eccles cake with a wedge of Wensleydale cheese or a slice of Tracy’s ‘almond-berry’ cake with a divine beurre noisette topping. The Jacksons’ idea was to slow down and win some time back, but at this rate they’re going to be busier than they were up the road.
