Retro in the best sense, this French ‘bistrot' wedged into Teddington High Street turns out hearty French cooking for a hungry local crowd. It's an instantly familiar place, with brick walls, dark
wood tables and chairs, velvet drapes and matching furniture, run by a Jedward lookalike with an ‘Allo ‘Allo! accent and bags of charm. The cooking is proper bistro, so expect moules marinière,
salade niçoise and escargots followed by saddle of lamb with pistachio and mint gnocchi or fillet of cod with cockle, clam and mussel chowder – plus the inevitable steaks. Portions are generous and
the whole package is remarkable value for money, while the set lunch (£10.95/13.95 for two/three courses) is a complete bargain. Wines are mostly French, with plenty by the glass and a few
interlopers from elsewhere.

Great atmosphere, friendly and efficient service and good food. There were a couple of issues: the fish dishes I had were a bit too salty and the wine list seemed a bit over priced, it didn't include any descriptions and was printed in a very small font! Overall though we had a great experience and will certainly be back.

We first came almost by accident when Retro had been open only a few weeks. We had slick service, excellent food and wine (ask for a recomendation – excellent every time – La Garrigue especially) and a relaxed but attentive atmosphere. Coming from Fulham it seems EXCELENT value for money and not really much more than other local eateries. Next time you go say Helloooooooooooooooooo!! to Vincent!
