Quince Bakery is located in the heart of Islington and is led by pastry chef Anna Higham who is on a mission to honour British ingredients and traditional baking in a stylish, welcoming way that puts quality, integrity, and community at the heart. You might have guessed by the name of the bakery, but Anna took inspiration from her favourite fruit, the quince. Anna and her team work closely with local farmers and artisans to ensure high quality, sustainable ingredients where possible.
Anna spent the earlier years of her career working at Bread Street Kitchen and Petrus, before heading over to Michelin-starred restaurant Lyle’s in Shoreditch where she spent four years. Over this time, she developed a signature style for all things pastry, defined by seasonal ingredients, simplicity and flavour. Still with the Lyle’s group, she took on a lead role as group head of pastry, opening Flor in 2019 - a bakery and wine bar in Borough Market. She then joined The River Cafe as executive head of pastry, before publishing a baking book and branching out to open Quince.
Bakes at Quince Bakery change with the seasons, so in the summer, look out for strawberry hand pies and apricot custard buns, and then in autumn, enjoy namesake quince rice pudding tarts and roast pork sandwiches with quince aioli. Apples, citrus, and rhubarb scents fill the air in winter, and the bakery comes alive with mince pies and quince puddings.
Some of the dishes that you may find on the menu include a brown butter bun, Dundee scone, pear and apple pie, ecclefechan tart, cheese and coleslaw sandwich and onion and goat's curd galette. The Quince Bakery shop also offers a handpicked selection of artisanal cheeses, wines, olive oils, and honey, which have been chosen by Anna and her team.
