As one of the few private clubs in the City, Eight should attract plenty of financial whizz-kids – although you don’t need to be a member to eat in its first-floor restaurant. The stylish, modern
dining room has plenty of dark wood, leather and cream on show, enlivened with a sprinkling of contemporary art (check out the ice-cream cone designs on the walls). The kitchen turns out competent
if rather functional food with a twist: expect the likes of sautéed tiger prawns with minted couscous ahead of steamed fillet of sea bream with coconut wild rice and saffron sauce or pan-fried pork
fillet with curried celeriac gratin and savoy cabbage, all complemented by a decent, wide-ranging wine list. Service is politely efficient, and the quiet feel makes this a useful spot for a
discreet business lunch. The outdoor terrace is a further plus.
