Pig on the Hill is a gastropub and restaurant perched just inland from Westward Ho! in North Devon, within the parish of Bideford. Situated on Pusehill Road, it occupies a rural setting on top of a hill, offering sweeping countryside views and easy access to the South West Coast Path and nearby sandy beaches.
The pub retains a welcoming, rustic character, having been converted from a former cowshed. Inside, walls display agricultural tools and pig-themed decor, while dining and bar areas feature tractor-seat stools, a real-ale bar stocked with West Country brews, and a sheltered patio and lawned garden equipped with a children’s play area.
Pig on the Hill offers breakfast-style coffees and pastries in the morning, a casual lunch with sandwiches and light mains, an a la carte dinner served from late afternoon, and a traditional Sunday lunch featuring roast meats and seasonal specials.
The menu is rooted in British gastropub cooking with occasional French influences, emphasising locally sourced seasonal ingredients. Offerings include a mix of small and larger plates: root-vegetable crisps, olives and smoked nuts to start; mains such as tempura-battered cod, chickpea dhal, pork tenderloin wellington and char-grilled Dartmoor-beef fillet; and fresh seafood. Sides range from hispi cabbage with blue cheese to triple-cooked chips, and desserts include sticky toffee pudding, crème brûlée, and local cheese boards .
Pig on the Hill also operates five on-site log cabins — perfect for couples or families looking to explore the coast or countryside. Overall, the setting, food and facilities make it a versatile destination for relaxed daytime meals, group gatherings, family outings and weekend getaways in rural Devon. Dogs are welcome, too!
