About Patty & Bun Goodge Street

Burger entrepreneur Joe Grossmann’s perpetually growing restaurant chain has landed on Goodge Street, taking over what was Fraq’s Lobster Shack. As with the other restaurants, the menu offers an affordable selection of handmade, British-bred patties in brioche buns, with comedy names ranging from Smokey Robinson, Ari Gold and Foghorn Leghorn chicken to Jose Jose (laced with chilli). A few garnishes, chips with rosemary salt and some weekly specials will complete the picture, and it’s worth looking out for collaborations with other outfits such as Pitt Cue Co. The booze list is short and sharp: cult beers, wines by the carafe, rum punch and a few funky cocktails. Expect queues for sit-downs and takeaways but if you like burgers, it’s “well worth the wait”.

Found the best burger yet?
Patty and Bun serves a variety of patties in buns, hence the name Patty and Bun. You have a choice of beef, lamb, chicken or vegetarian filling at an average price of £8.00 with sides such as 'cheese balls', coleslaw, salad, chips and fried chicken. It is not a huge menu but it was difficult to settle for just one burger. Besides, the burger menu were full of inverted commas on their dishes that I wasn't quite sure it was supposed to mean what it meant. It was quite filling and I would recommend, for an average appetite, to order one burger and one side to share. Or three burgers between two people – not joking. And, don't forget a portion of those chips otherwise it just doesn't feel complete. We took our takeaway and went round to Crabtree Field park. 'smokey robinson' burger £8.75 – a rich and satisfying burger, smoky taste with loads of lovely, messy sauce! The cheese was good, as were the caramelised onions. portobello 'dig it' mushroom burger £8.00 'winger winger chicken dinner' £5.75 – this was a smoked confit wings with BBQ sauce. Very saucy, smokey and a tad salty. I felt it was quite dry too. fried chicken thighs with tamarind glaze with smoked peanuts and smashed cucumbers £6.00 – not one but all three of the chicken thighs were dry and tough. It was as if the meat had been dehydrated. Even if they were buried under the abundance of sauce, it was not salvaged by the taste. The tamarind sauce had more of sweetness than the tangy flavour. It was a little disappointing. chips with rosemary salt £2.95 – it was quite salty but I really appreciated the saltiness.
