OINK on Victoria Street is the first instalment of the iconic pulled pork sandwich store that’s on every Edinburgh travel-guide, and it’s a must-visit on ours too. Ethically sourced pork and a delicious menu, OINK provides ideal meals - quick and delicious - that are perfect for anyone who needs a meal made on-the-spot for them.
Although their menu only consists of pulled pork sandwiches, this doesn’t stop OINK from providing customers with much variety and choice. To buy your sandwich you must follow a quick 4-step process. First, you pick the size; which includes piglet (small), oink (medium), or grunter (big). Then you decide between white or brown bread, pick either sage and onion or homemade haggis, and finally choose from lots of different homemade sauces , including apple, mustard mayo, BBQ, chilli cheese, chilli jam. That’s it! Fast and efficient. OINK also provides a gluten-free hog in a box without the bread.
With two sister locations at Canongate and Hanover Street, OINK has quickly grabbed the attention of every pork-loving person in the country. They have a cult following on social media, and whilst they are popular with tourists they have many loyal customers, mostly hungry students and workers in a hurry, who frequently go. They even have a long range of black-and-pink merch items, which include wooly hats, tracksuit bottoms, hoodies, polo shirts, T-shirts, paintings, postcards, and even men’s boxer shorts and ladies knickers. OINK also offers catering services for almost any occasion, including weddings, parties and festivals.
Still, popularity and profit has not made OINK forget their original ideals. The company only uses farm-reared pigs from the owner Adam Marshall’s own Berwickshire farm. All their ingredients are locally sourced and fresh, hence why they are only open from 11am until they sell out of pork, because they insist on only serving the best to their customers.
