About

Number nine is a modern British restaurant located just outside of Ramsgate, offering a refined yet relaxed dining experience built around seasonal, local produce. You'll find it at the Chapel House Estate, delivering a concept that brings together elegant presentation, thoughtful cooking and a warm, approachable atmosphere, making it well suited to anything from a smart lunch with friends to a leisurely dinner or special celebration.

The interiors reflect a contemporary coastal aesthetic with a muted, clean colour palette, polished wooden floors, bare brick accents and navy blue panelling. Thoughtfully chosen artwork and well-spaced tables contribute to a calm, uncluttered environment, allowing conversation to flow easily. The space feels sophisticated without being formal, but there's also a new glass courtyard for drinks and catch-ups.

The number nine menu changes regularly according to what's in season, with a strong emphasis on provenance. Starters might include dishes such as whipped butter beans with garlic aioli, pan-fried king oyster mushrooms, or charred local asparagus with crispy hen's egg. Larger plates, meanwhile, could include baked aubergine with heritage carrot salad, slow-braised spring lamb with mint pesto, or a pan-roasted sea bream with black olive tapenade. There are always well-considered vegetarian options, and desserts combine classical techniques with a little creativity, offering up the likes of pistachio affogato, as well as chargrilled pineapple with rum and a coconut sorbet.

For more casual occasions, there's a bar menu with snacks and nibbles, and guests can also expect a focused, mostly European wine selection with an emphasis on food-friendly bottles and by-the-glass options. There is also a short list of classic cocktails, local craft beers and summery spritzes. Guests should be aware that the restaurant is relatively small, so booking is advised, particularly at weekends. The team accommodates dietary requirements with advance notice.
