The Northern Quarter is undoubtedly one of the coolest neighbourhoods in Manchester with its vintage shops, fun bars and edgy street art. A one-stop-shop for shopping, experiences, entertainment and food and drink, it’s no wonder that students, tourists and locals flock here to take advantage of its vibrant offering. The area used to be home to a collection of old warehouses, and has since been developed to retain its industrial look and feel, with exposed brickwork and iron columns.

During the day, there are plenty of places to eat if you’re after some post-shopping grub. From all-day brasseries to brunch-serving cafes, to places serving quick bites such as sandwiches and sushi. Or, if you’re after somewhere special to go for dinner, there are a number of award-winning restaurants and fine dining hotels to choose from in and around the area. For many, the Northern Quarter really comes into its own at night, perpetuated by a throng of cocktail bars and pubs. From dark and seductive speakeasies mixing up innovative cocktails, to edgy bars serving craft beers and local ales, the NQ stays alive long after the sun goes down.

Looking for more places to eat and drink? We’ve rounded-up all the best cheap eats in Manchester for excellent dining on a budget. You can also find all Manchester's best places to enjoy bottomless brunch if you’re planning a fun occasion with friends at the weekend.
