No Name is a modern British bistro in Sheffield, known for its seasonal menus and confident, ingredient-led cooking. Open for dinner only, this small, independently run restaurant began life as an underground pop-up before establishing a permanent home in Crookes. It has since built a loyal following for its stripped-back approach and focus on flavour.
Head chef Thomas Samworth leads the kitchen with an emphasis on regional British produce and solid classical technique. Dishes are thoughtfully constructed, allowing the quality of the ingredients to take centre stage. Menus change regularly in line with the seasons, meaning ingredients are enjoyed when they're at their best.
The dining room is intimate and atmospheric. Mustard yellow walls are decorated with eclectic artwork, while warm wood panelling, simple wooden tables and filament bulb lighting create a cosy, low-lit setting. The scale of the space lends itself well to date nights, small group dinners and special occasions, with a relaxed but attentive service style.
A meal might begin with aperitifs such as bread served with Parmesan and chive cream or marinated black olives. Starters include dishes such as breaded lamb shoulder with creme fraiche, mint vinegar and herb salad, smoked eel with pearl barley with mature cheddar, fried breadcrumbs and lemon. Mains range from market fish with old bay potted shrimp butter, potatoes and greens to beef cheek with caramelised cauliflower, while vegetarian dishes such as croissant pudding with blue cheese, honey-glazed parsnips and pecan pesto demonstrate equal care. Desserts may feature sweet treats such as passion fruit tart with yoghurt sorbet or warm apple rice pudding with toasted oat crumble.
No Name operates as a bring-your-own restaurant with a corkage charge per person. They also offer tea, coffee and soft drinks in house.
