The team behind Spitalfields hit Hotbox are launching the first Central London Chuck Burger this June. Situated at the southern end of Commercial Street (the same road as its older sibling), they’ll be dishing out the signature burgers and wings which have made them famous since they appeared at Hawker House street food market back in October 2015.

Inspired by founder Basit Nasim’s travels across America, the restaurant’s menu will feature the legendary cheese and bacon burgers, alongside the signature Devil Burger (28-day-aged steak patty with charred jalapeños, sriracha mayo and jalapeño sauce) and plenty of new additions. Look out for the Hot-Ox beef burger, stuffed with slow-cooked spicy oxtail chilli, cheese, onions, pickles and chipotle mayonnaise, while the Seoul burger comes with buttermilk fried chicken, Korean hot sauce and (you guessed it) kimchi coleslaw. But burger of the week goes to the Dolly Burger, a spiced lamb affair with cheese, pickles and sriracha mayo.

Chuck Burgers came second at London’s Wing Fest 2015 contest, competing against 12 other candidates from across the UK – so expect wings worth flapping about too. Sides will include mac ‘n’ cheese balls (we’ll never say no to those), chips with nacho sauce and pancetta bacon bits.

Set in a renovated, old-school East London café, Chuck Burger will retain the original tiled floors and be outfitted with furniture handmade from reclaimed materials. Expect artwork from the Chuck Burger crew themselves, including wall art and hand-painted logos.

Talking to Squaremeal about the new opening, Nasim (above) said “since we opened Hotbox a couple of years ago, the Aldgate side of Commercial Street has seen some fantastic new pubs and great restaurants opening; we couldn't resist snapping this site up.”

Next up, Nasim’s revealed plans for a potential new project, fusing smoked barbecue meats with traditional Pakistani masalas and sauces, saying “we might have something in the pipeline next year.”

There’s no doubt that pop-ups-gone-permanent and street food sensations are now responsible for a sizeable portion of London’s restaurant and bar launches – we recently reported on Decatur going permanent at Kingsland Road bar Pamela. Truly democratic dining... Long may it continue.
