Unless you’ve been living at the bottom of the sea, you’re probably familiar with Sexy Fish, the new restaurant from Caprice Holdings which is causing quite the stir: a cool £15 million has been spent on interiors that include a Damien Hirst bronze mermaid wall panel, Frank ‘Guggenheim’ Gehry lamps on the lava-stone bar, and onyx, onyx everywhere. What you may not have seen is the gleaming fishy paradise that is The Coral Reef Room, which offers private dining for up to 48. We’ve got our mitts on a first look at the group’s new time-lapse video, which shows the whole building process and a few lingering shots of the end result in just over a minute – it’s impressive stuff.
The two fish tanks in The Coral Reef Room are the largest live coral tanks known to exist. Each tank houses petrified coral sculptures, specifically crafted to accommodate a collection of live coral and providing the perfect seascape for a colourful assortment of tropical (and, no doubt, sexy) fish. Tended to regularly by a team of animal lovers, the tanks are not overstocked and regular tests are carried out on the water quality and livestock husbandry.
On top of that, the Martin Brudnizki Design Studio is behind chairs and bar stools upholstered in aqua-coloured leather, as well as walls adorned with silk fabric.
Last drinks orders are at 1.30am in The Coral Reef Room, so if you bag a table here you’re in for a long, leisurely treat…
