Sweetcorn dish at the Dairy

January is a notoriously quiet month for the London restaurant industry but that doesn’t seem to have stopped many of us from eating in some of the capital's most exciting hotspots. Here’s our definitive list of the hottest restaurants right now..

Chiltern Firehouse
Where: Marylebone, W1
Why: the buzz is still going strong for the restaurant inside Andre Balazs’ eponymous hotel in an old fire station on Chiltern Street. If it’s celeb spotting you’re after, then you’ll find them aplenty in here.

The Colony Grill Room

Where: Mayfair, W1
Why: this Corbin and King restaurant inside their first ever hotel, The Beaumont, gives Chiltern Firehouse a run for its money. Last time we popped in for a Colony club salad, we shared the dining room with Elton John.

Where: Clapham, SW4
Why: this modern British bistro by chef and owner Robin Gill has put Clapham on the culinary map. He’s opening a deli next door, too, which will showcase their incredible sourdough and home-cured meats.

Where: Mayfair, W1
Why: dishes like kid goat methi keema (topped with brain) and lamb nalli barra (giant lamb chops) will make you instantly fall in love with this Indian restaurant from the Sethi Family (Trishna, Bubbledogs). It’s so good it won our Square Meal BMW Restaurant of the Year Award.

The Manor
Where:  Clapham, SW4
Why: after the huge success of the Dairy, Robin Gill decided to open another bistro just down the road in Clapham and this one is just as popular. There’s a dessert bar too which should not be missed.

The Palomar
Where: Soho, W1
Why: sit at the counter overlooking the kitchen and let the boisterous chefs keep you entertained from beginning to end. It’s the best fun we’ve had in a restaurant in ages. Make sure you order the Yemeni pot-baked bread.
Smoking Goat, Denmark Street
Portland
Where: Great Portland Street, W1
Why: it’s not just the food at this recently opened, all day dining restaurant from Will Lander (he also owns Quality Chop House) that’s getting people excited. The wine list features some rare beauties available by the glass.

Why: the fish sauce wings and smoked lamb ribs at this cramped little Thai BBQ joint have made this one of the most popular openings of last year. Take you own wet wipes though, things get terribly messy.

Sushi Tetsu
Where: Clerkenwell, EC1
Why: This teeny tiny sushi bar has got to be London’s hardest restaurant to bag a reservation. With just seven seats it’s easy to see why. Our tip, keep an eye on @SushiTetsuUK for last minute cancellations.
