Food and drink bloggers take top awards

Bloggers awards 2014 - blog_awards_WEB.jpgA vegetable desserts blog and a site covering Argentinian wine, food, travel and culture have taken the top food and drink spots at the inaugural National UK Blog Awards.

Kate Hackworthy’s Veggie Desserts blog scooped the prize for individual food and drink blog, while The Real Argentina took the top spot for food and drink organisation. Hackworthy’s blog was also recognised by Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution as Blog of the Month and her recipes have appeared in The Guardian and The Huffington Post.

The Real Argentina blog includes an Argentinian slang survival dictionary, wine and food pairings and a guide to the best steaks in Buenos Aires.

According to the awards organisers, more than 1,000 blogs were nominated and around 16,000 readers voted. The awards ceremony took place at The Grange, St Pauls – and judges included the original Stig, Perry McCarthy as well as Square Meal social media manager Eleanor Crossland.

Awards founder Gemma Pears said: ‘Firstly, I’d like to thank all the nominees for their entries and congratulate all the winners on their awards. With the exceptional level of entries we received it was a great achievement to get shortlisted, let alone win an award.

‘We have been overwhelmed by the response to the awards, especially with it being our first year. This just helps to show the growing importance of bloggers in the media landscape and we can’t wait to launch the 2015 awards.’

Square Meal head of online Ed Butcher presented the award for individual food and drink blogger and Cloe Ambrose from sponsor Twinings (pictured above left with Butcher) presented the award for food and drink organisation.
The awards cover many sectors and the full list of winners can be found here.

The National UK Blog Awards is also running a one-day Blogging Expo in October 2014. See blogawardsuk.co.uk for more information.
