Gravy ice cream? This bizarre ice cream pop-up returns to London for 2025

One of London's strangest and most anticipated summer pop-ups, Anya Hindmarch's Ice Cream Project has officially returned for its fourth year running. Open now until Saturday 16 August, the wildly popular pop-up is once again transforming nostalgic British cupboard staples into bizarre sounding scoops of ice cream and sorbet.

Located in The Village in Chelsea, the Ice Cream Project draws queues down the street every summer – and with good reason. Each flavour is handmade in small batches in Devon, using high-quality ingredients that'll have you questioning whether pesto ice cream is weirdly delicious or just plain weird. They're the sort of flavours that absolutely shouldn't work, but somehow do.

Each flavour is inspired by household names that are often found in the pantry, including everything from beverages and biscuits to classic condiments. Previous years have included Heinz Baked Beans, Branston Piccalilli, and Sarson's Vinegar, alongside slightly more promising sounding offerings like Sun Pat Peanut Butter and Tropicana Orange Juice. Pop in and try an individual scoop (or two), with full-sized tubs available to take home.

What flavours are available this year?

  • Bird’s Custard
  • Bisto Gravy
  • Copella Cloudy Apple Juice
  • Filippo Berrio Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Flying Goose Sriracha
  • Garnier’s Pickled Onions
  • Irn-Bru
  • Jacob’s Twiglets
  • Maldon Sea Salt
  • McVitie’s Club Orange
  • McVitie’s Milk Chocolate Hobnobs
  • Ovaltine
  • Quaker Oats
  • Romney’s Kendal Mint Cake
  • Rowse Honey

For those wanting to put their tastebuds to the test, The Ice Cream Project Blind Tasting Tea is also back for another year, at the neighbouring Anya Café. This playful twist on afternoon tea features a blind tasting of 15 different ice creams and sorbets - served with wafers, sprinkles, and a personal scorecard for guessing each mystery scoop. This tasting experience has sold out in previous years, but there are still some slots available, so we suggest booking ASAP.
