On the outskirts of Regent’s Park, just round the corner from Baker Street, you’ll find Mumtaz, an Indian restaurant serving up traditional and authentic cuisine. Established in the 1970s, Mumtaz was one of the first Indian restaurants in London, and has long served locals and tourists, alongside renowned cricketers and celebrities, with its regional cuisine packed full of authentic flavours.
A rather lavish entryway sees columns and ornate arches lining the walls, an inviting welcome that draws you into the stylish dining room, decked out with vibrant foliage and intricate artwork. At Mumtaz, you’ll find a bold interior, with a rich, navy blue and golden colour palette, with a deep blue, velvet carpet and mirrored walls to bounce the light around the space.
Authentic and richly spiced curries are on the menus, with all your favourite dishes. Tuck into a selection of soups or appetisers to start, including the likes of chilli paneer cooked with onion, peppers and green chilli, or chicken broth consommé with spices and herbs. Elsewhere, enjoy onion bhajis, handmade samosas or fish pakoras served with green chutney.
Moving on to mains, the menu is divided into a number of sections with seafood, lamb, chicken and vegetable options all available. Diners can expect the likes of lamb rogan josh, butter chicken, Karahi prawns or a ginger crab masala which has been simmered in yoghurt and comes with basmati rice. Guests can also opt for something from the tandoor grill, with options such as lamb chops served on the bone, or go all out with the Mumtaz mixed grill, offering an indulgent selection of grilled meats.
On the veggie front, menus offer a selection of curries made using paneer, spinach, cauliflower and potatoes. Be sure to pair with one of the speciality naans and a fluffy bowl of rice for the full experience. A selection of soft drinks are available to pair, including rose or mango lassi, with a condensed selection of beers also on offer.
