Tucked between Brixton and Clapham on Acre Lane, Mulan Noodle brings the bold, comforting flavours of Xi’an street food to South London. This Northern Chinese noodle house is a celebration of hand-crafted tradition, where every dish is made from scratch, from the wide, chewy Biang Biang noodles to freshly pleated dumplings and house-made sweet and sour chicken.
The open kitchen is a spectacle in itself, with chefs stretching and slapping dough into ribbons. These noodles form the base of Mulan’s signature dishes, including fiery handmade chilli oil noodles and a range of dry mixed and soup noodles, with toppings like cumin beef, spicy rib, or tomato and egg. Everything is customisable, and vegetarians are well catered for.
Beyond noodles, the menu spans rice dishes, street snacks and starters like smashed marinated cucumber, Xinjiang pepper chicken, and black fungus salad. Dumplings and buns are made daily, and desserts stay true to the theme - think Sichuan ice jelly and deep-fried milk.
Drinks are equally considered. Signature cocktails like the Jade Margarita (with jasmine tea) and Oolong Eclipse (a twist on a whiskey sour) are designed to complement the food’s depth and spice. Bubble tea lovers can order from the adjoining tea bar, with favourites like Brown Sugar and Mango Coconut Bubble Tea delivered straight to your table.
Adding to the atmosphere, live traditional Chinese music fills the space every Friday and Saturday night, with performances on the Guzheng and Pipa creating a transportive dining experience.
Founded by Mina and Kris, who grew up in China, Mulan Noodle is a heartfelt homage to their culinary roots - a warm, flavour-packed addition to South London’s dining scene.
