Despite the sad death of its original chef/owner and local Indian restaurant hero Udit Sarkhel in February 2012, Mango & Silk continues to stand out because of its eager-to-help service, exotic, lilac-hued surroundings and well-founded cooking. Expect an eclectic mix of dishes from across the subcontinent, taking in Hyderabadi chicken-wing ‘sixers’ with Andhra chilli sauce or Calcutta vegetable chops with Bengali mustard dip, ahead of, say, eye-watering Goan prawn masala or jardaloo ma gosht (a lamb dish tempered by apricots and straw potatoes). Meanwhile, curry-house die-hards can get their spicy kicks from bhunas, kormas, chicken tikka masala and other Anglicised staples. To drink, order a beer, a mango bellini or something suitable from the modest list of international wines. Free home deliveries are now available within a three-mile radius.
