Los Primos is a cerveceria from Harts Group in Borough Yards, modelled on the neighbourhood beer bars found across Spain. It's walk-in only and open all day from 11am, serving churros and coffee in the morning, bocadillos at lunch, and beer, wine and tapas into the night.
The name means 'cousins' in Spanish and refers to the grandchildren of the late Mallorca-based artist Vladimir Daskaloff. Four of them are Directors of Harts Group: brothers Sam, James and Eddie Hart and their cousin Anna Watkins. The family spent childhood summers together in Mallorca and later lived in Madrid and Barcelona, and Los Primos is their tribute to Spain's drop-in eating and drinking culture.
Interiors are by Macaulay Sinclair, with graphics by Irving & Co. An open front with classic 1950s signage leads to indoor-outdoor counter seating along an open sash window. Inside, the focal point is a large panelled bar with a stainless steel top, surrounded by hightops and an eclectic mix of marble, wooden and laminate tables.
The menu was developed with Barrafina's Global Culinary Director Patricia Roig and Group Executive Chef Antonio González Milla. Glass cabinets on the counter display cold tapas such as gildas, mussels escabeche and ensaladilla rusa. Snacks include kikos (fried, salted corn) and fuet, a cured Catalan sausage. Fried tapas run from crispy pigs' ears and calamares in a paper cone with tartare sauce to a bomba stuffed with txistorra sausage and topped with brava sauce and aioli. Hot dishes include chorizo cooked in cider, albondigas and tuna empanadas. Bocadillos come filled with tortilla, lomo de cerdo or chorizo, and classic flan rounds things off.
Beer, wine, cider and vermut are all poured on tap. Estrella Galicia comes as a caña (a third of a pint), media or doble, alongside Casa Mariol vermut and gin and tonics.
