About

Tucked away on Whitstable’s Harbour Street, Keller is a cosy, intimate restaurant pairing seasonal cooking with an exceptional wine list. Headed by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Smith and sommelier Elliot Ashton-Konig, the kitchen specialises in small plates cooked over charcoal in its Bertha oven, with locally sourced ingredients shaping menus that change throughout the seasons.

The interiors reflect the same understated approach as the food. A warm palette of earthy neutrals, rich terracotta tones and forest green detailing creates a calm, cocooning atmosphere, complemented by timber furniture and leather seating. Terracotta glazed tiles frame the striking wine display and bar, while softly illuminated banquette seating, brass accents and simple floral arrangements bring warmth and character to the dining room.

The menu celebrates the best of Kent’s coastline and countryside, beginning with snacks such as Whitstable rock oysters, grilled flatbread with pea, mint, ricotta and lardo, rabbit croquettes with Worcestershire sauce and seabream tostada. Starters include roasted scallops, mussels on toast and beef tartare, before larger plates such as beef bavette with green beans, sea bass with fennel and Cornish lamb rump with tomato and goat’s curd.

For those dining together, generous sharing dishes including dry-aged ribeye beef and grilled monkfish for two showcase the kitchen’s approach to cooking over charcoal. Seasonal sides, such as Isle of Wight tomatoes and charred romaine Caesar, accompany the mains, while desserts including Kentish strawberry and cardamom choux bun or lemon meringue with lemon ice cream and toasted oats round off the meal.

Wine is central to the Keller experience, with an eclectic list featuring producers from the Old and New World alongside a particularly strong selection of English wines. Carefully chosen bottles have been selected to complement the seasonal menu, allowing guests to explore thoughtful food and wine pairings.
