TV heartthrob and local boy James Martin is bringing it all back home at this historic family-owned hotel in the centre of Malton, with help from recently promoted head chef Jake Jones – ex-L’Enclume and a finalist on the Young Chef of the Year competition. The dining room provides a smart, formal and sophisticated backdrop for cooking with a strong British accent and a dedication to seasonal produce – so expect big flavours ranging from confit heritage potato with crispy ox tongue, lovage, dripping and pickled onion to Yorkshire blackberries with lemon sabayon, blackberry cake and Douglas Fir. In between, you might consider braised beef cheek with pearl barley risotto and warm beer jelly, hay-roasted grouse or fillet of wreckfish with crayfish, fennel and buckwheat. Lighter food is available in the bar and atrium, while the terrace is perfect for afternoon tea.
