SquareMeal Review of Grand Union Paddington
Tucked away in a cosy nook behind Edgware Road, this branch of Grand Union sits right next to the canal that gives the lively chain its name. It makes a relaxed all-day destination, whether you’re looking for a long alfresco lunch, after-work drinks or a corporate bash. Either way, the lush ‘Aladdin’s cave’ interiors – chandeliers, leather sofas, velvet curtains and vintage knick-knacks – contrast strikingly with the ‘dirty diner’ food on offer: think ribs, wings, fancy burgers, sharing plates, hot dogs, foot-wide pizzas and crinkle-cut cheesy fries. With DJs spinning the decks and busy bartenders crafting interesting drinks such as Key Lime Pie Martini or homemade basil lemonade with Tequila and jalapeño, the vibe quickly ramps up into party mode at weekends. Quiz nights on Tuesdays.
