Gonville Kitchen is a smart, yet relaxed, British-Mediterranean restaurant situated within the refined Gonville Hotel, overlooking Parker’s Piece. The sharing-style menu features a selection of small plates and kitchen signatures crafted from locally sourced produce, combining the best of Britain’s larder with Mediterranean flavours and techniques.
The dining room is spacious and naturally lit, with a coveted alfresco terrace that boasts views across the city green. Combined with genuinely warm hospitality, Gonville Kitchen is suited to everything from casual lunches with friends to reunion drinks and celebratory dinners.
For dinner, guests are invited to choose from the a la carte menu (this is not available for lunch). Expect to find shareable small plates such as pan seared scallops with red pepper veloute, scallop roe crumb and tomato salsa; duck leg terrine with radish puree and radish crisps; and stuffed courgette flowers with crispy capers and compressed cucumber. While larger ‘kitchen signatures’ feature steak with potato terrine and peppercorn sauce; cod ballotine with wild garlic veloute, anchovy pesto and tempura anchovy; and pan seared sea bream with asparagus and a Champagne cream sauce.
For guests in a hurry, or looking for a great-value meal out, the lunch set menu includes two or three courses for a fixed price. This is available Tuesday to Saturday, and might include braised ox cheek with horseradish cream and polenta croquettes to start, followed by cod with Chardonnay sauce and fennel puree, and chocolate fondant to finish.
Gonville Kitchen lies adjacent to The Long Bar, where diners can retreat to for a post-meal digestif (or pre-dinner aperitif!). The restaurant also serves a traditional afternoon tea menu every day of the week, with the option to round off your experience with prosecco or Champagne.
