Located in the heart of Exmoor National Park, the Exmoor Forest Inn is a produce-led pub serving their own take on some of Britain’s most beloved dishes. Complete with eleven relaxing guest bedrooms and a fire-lit lounge, it’s the perfect place to recharge and refuel.
In 2021, this beautiful Victorian pub was acquired by three brothers, Edward, Freddie and Alexander Greenall, and in 2022, it was fully refurbished with ten double rooms and one family suite. A lot of the food on the plate is sourced from the pub’s farm, which is rented from the national park. The farm has around 700 cattle and 1,200 Scottish ewes and the surrounding areas are blossoming with locally foraged ingredients, like wild garlic, sea purslane, sweet woodruff, pineapple weed and their house speciality wild mushrooms.
Their daily changing menu conveys a sense of place, with each dish aiming to represent Exmoor’s climate, seasons, altitude, farming, animals and coastline. Their menu is distinctly British, with starters like deep fried breaded whitebait with tartare sauce; and traditional ploughman’s with pickles and house sourdough. For main’s, there’s crowd favourites like beer battered haddock with chips, tartare sauce and crushed peas; and an organic double cheeseburger with burnt butter ketchup and fries, as well as more adventurous numbers like spinach and pumpkin lasagne with sourdough garlic bread. Hearty puddings include winter berry and apple crumble, sticky toffee pudding and a Somerset and Devon cheese board. They also have a popular Sunday roast and a knack for making celebrations extra special.
There’s cask ales on tap as well as lagers, pale ales and a selection of reasonably-priced wines. The Exmoor Forest Inn has also been awarded a Michelin green star, which makes this place delicious and sustainable!
