Bucking the trend for corporate chain pubs in railway stations, the Tap is an independent, craft-beer specialist housed within one of Euston’s original Grade II-listed stone lodges. Don’t expect
comfort – it’s tiny, with only a handful of seats – but do expect one of the best beer selections in the capital. There are 19 globetrotting, artisan brews on draught, from Matuska Raptor IPA
(Czech Republic) to Anchor Humming Ale (USA), plus more than 100 bottled beers. Top shouts might range from fruity Timmerman’s Peach (£3 a pint) all the way up to the punchy Great Divide 10% (£4
for an obligatory half-pint draught). Since the departure of MasterChef winner Tim Anderson, the food has been pared back to pizzas & pork scratchings, which suits the booze-loving,
male-dominated crowd just fine.
