SquareMeal Review of Enoteca da Luca Devonshire Square

Bronze Award

Each of these attractive wine bars has its own distinct character and menu but the house style, which simply relies on great Italian ingredients and wines, should bring out the Latin lover in everyone. Dotted around the city, they’re ideal stop-off points for seriously tempting platters of antipasti and cheese, as well as beautifully prepared, tapas-sized sharing plates. Think octopus, chorizo and Jerusalem artichoke, or burrata with pickled beetroot and curly kale, embellished with a touch of honeycomb for sweetness. If you’re not one for sharing, don't despair: you can hog the slow-cooked pig cheeks with soft polenta and parmesan crisps or whatever delights are being cooked on the barbecue outside during the summer months, washing it down with a little Tignanello and leaving with a smile on your face.

An enoteca embodies the essence of an Italian wine bar, where food is served alongside a beautiful selection of wines. Embracing the ethos of 'piccolo e bello,' the team here celebrates the charm of being small and beautiful in their unique style, allowing customers to bring a taste of Italy to their table in the heart of London.

Begin with a selection of antipasti to share amongst the table. Choose from octopus carpaccio layered with orange and rosemary, a dish of burrata with a spicy tomato reduction and basil, or crispy pork belly and mostarda di frutta. Other sharing plates include the dish of baby spinach with pear, gorgonzola and walnuts, and bresaola made with air dried beef, rocket, parmesan and lemon dressing. For smaller snacks, enjoy some nocellara green olives and taralli pugliesi, or perhaps the veal, pork and olive croquettes for a few rich bites. When it comes to your main, pizza toppings include the margherita bufalina classic, made with buffalo mozzarella, roasted tomato, garlic and basil oil.

If you love a bit of spice, try the scamorza e salsiccia, made with spicy Tuscan sausage and smoked mozzarella. Those who love roasted veggies and strong flavours will adore the contadina with aubergine, bell peppers, courgette and goat's cheese. Da Luca specials include a dish of wild trout fillet with Swiss chard and lemon butter sauce, along with a chicken milanese with gem lettuce, garlic and anchovy dressing, and shaved parmesan. Pasta dishes range from the tagliatelle ai porcini, a gnocchi dish with king prawns, datterini tomatoes, chilli and parsley, and orecchiette alla 'nduja with a creamy spicy melted pork, red onion and tomato.
