Duck and Rice has brought its blend of Cantonese cooking and casual pub culture to Battersea Power Station, marking its second site after the original in Soho. Set within the iconic Turbine Hall B, the new location offers a large, welcoming space that mixes the familiarity of a British pub with the flavours and comfort of Chinese dining.
The interiors take their cues from the cha chaan teng tea houses of Hong Kong. Wood panelling, tiled floors and curved banquettes create a warm, approachable atmosphere, while a central bar and open kitchen add energy and movement to the space. With seating for up to 185 people, it is well-suited to group dining, casual catch-ups and solo meals alike.
The menu focuses on Cantonese staples, with a particular emphasis on roasted meats, dim sum and noodle dishes. The signature dish, crispy duck with jasmine rice, is a standout - crisp-skinned, full of flavour and served in generous portions. Alongside it are familiar favourites such as beef ho fun, kung pao chicken and stir-fried greens with garlic. Dim sum is available throughout the day, with steamed buns, prawn dumplings and siu mai all made with care and attention to detail.
Drinks also play an integral role in the experience. The bar pours tank-fresh Pilsner Urquell, served unfiltered and stored in copper tanks visible behind the counter. It is cold, crisp and well matched to the bold, savoury flavours of the food. A small cocktail list and a good range of wines and spirits round out the offering.
Duck and Rice in Battersea is a lively, flexible spot with broad appeal. It is as comfortable for a quick lunch as it is for a longer evening with friends, bringing together good food, good beer and a relaxed atmosphere in one of London’s most striking new developments.
