Based on planning documents submitted to Lambeth Council, Dishoom could be set to open a new restaurant on London's South Bank. While the company has not officially confirmed the project, plans lodged with the council suggest Dishoom is seeking permission to make alterations to the former Las Iguanas site at the Royal Festival Hall, including the addition of a glazed veranda with a retractable roof over the existing terrace.
Founded by cousins Shamil and Kavi Thakrar, Dishoom has grown from a single Covent Garden restaurant into one of the UK's most recognisable restaurant brands, with cafes across London and beyond, as well as its more casual Permit Room spin-off. The South Bank site would continue the group's expansion south of the river, bringing Dishoom's blend of Bombay-inspired interiors, warm hospitality and crowd-pleasing Indian cooking to a location overlooking one of the capital's busiest riverside districts.
Dishoom menus draw inspiration from the cafes that once served Bombay's diverse communities, combining Indian flavours with influences from Persian, British and wider South Asian culinary traditions. All-day dining has long been part of the Dishoom experience, from its celebrated breakfast offerings through to lunch and dinner menus centred on small plates, grills, curries and biryanis. Signature dishes such as the House Black Daal, slow-cooked for over 24 hours, have become synonymous with the brand, alongside favourites including Bacon Naan Rolls, Ruby Chicken Curry and an array of kebabs, chaats and sharing dishes. All of which would, no doubt, be hugely popular on the South Bank.
Food is paired with an extensive drinks programme that spans house cocktails, Indian-inspired serves, wines, beers and non-alcoholic options.
The potential announcement of Dishoom South Bank would join newer Dishoom sites in Battersea and Borough (announced in July 2026), as the group extends south of the river in London, bringing it to a potential 11 sites in the capital.
