Diogenes the Dog is an award winning wine bar on Rodney Road in southeast London, and is the local go-to spot for those who want to indulge with an incredible bottle of wine and selection of tasty small plates. Sunny Hodge is the owner of Diogenes the Dog, and still carefully selects every bottle of wine that makes its way into the bar and store. Sunny's aim is to bring the lesser known labels to the forefront of the London wine bar scene, and stocks bottles from Poland, Texas and Taiwan, amongst other regions.
You can enjoy a pairing of wine with small plates with the wine tasting flight set menu, where your sommelier will take you on a journey. But, if you'd prefer to order your own plates, visit mid-morning and select from the brunch menu. Try the spiced pork sausage and smoked cheddar cheese toasted in croissant, creamy burrata served with pistachio mortadella on a bed of baked new potatoes, or spicy chorizo sausages with cheesy baked potatoes and scrambled black truffle eggs, served on sourdough. This is no regular brunch, this is a Diogenes the Dog brunch.
The all day menu kicks off with a cheese board with a spread of five cheeses, served on pane carasau and with cauli-lilli and chutney. The cured meats selection includes 30g and 70g cuts of truffle laced salami, pastrami and housemade duck breast. The small plate selection includes baked camembert in a sourdough bowl with Normandy honey and rosemary, a roasted red pepper hummus dip and sticky aubergine, chickpea and crushed pistachio salad. On a date? Order the white wine, chicken and shallot rillette which is served with sourdough and East Street pickles, and serves two.
